The Philippines and Cambodia signed three groundbreaking agreements on September 8 at Phnom Penh’s Peace Palace to strengthen tourism, education, and security. Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet led the ceremony, signaling a new era of bilateral cooperation.

The agreements aim to improve air connectivity, reinforce border security, and expand higher education partnerships. Officials emphasized that these efforts will make travel between the two countries safer, smoother, and more accessible to international tourists.

Stronger air connectivity to attract more tourists

Air travel was the centerpiece of the agreements, with both countries agreeing to expand direct flights and streamline airport operations. Officials said these measures will make travel faster and more convenient for visitors. Cambodia also pledged support for the Philippines’ food security programs. This initiative complements the tourism partnership by ensuring high-quality, safe food for travelers. Culinary tourism, considered a vital part of the visitor experience, will benefit from this pledge.

Officials underscored that access to safe, sustainable food enhances the reputation of both countries as premier tourism hubs in Southeast Asia.
